Texas Tech's Student Government Association is being proactive to keep students from drinking and driving. As a part of the existing safe-ride program, there will now be a safe-bus to transport students to and from local bars.

SGA External VP Michael Uryasz said the new S-Bus is an alternative to waiting up to an hour for the current Saferide cab service.

"This bus is to help offset that wait time, and to kind of focus on the epicenter of our off-campus living, which is in the Overton, where this - or the Overton area, where this bus will service, so far," Uryasz said.

The bus route includes stops on Broadway, in the Depot District, and at six apartment complexes in the Overton area across from the university. The safe bus will being making its runs beginning Thursday and is free to any student with a valid tech I.D. It operates from nine p.m. to three a.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
