38-year-old Charles "Chuck Dakota" Joslin has been indicted and arrested on theft charges.
His former employer Brad Moran at Ramar Communications says Joslin was a program director at Stars 97-3 who allegedly manipulated listeners into donating money that was later pocketed.
"What he would do is, he came up with this sympathetic child that was eight years old at umc, had cancer, father died in the iraq war and he had cancer and was a twin and he didn't have enough resources to pay for the cancer care," says Moran.
Moran says Joslin would lure his audience with signed footballs, concert tickets anything he could think of and put on company certificates.
"He totally brought in the rest of our crew and everybody, actually people that work here at the company actually bought some of these trips -- there was one couple that bought a cruise and caused them great heartache because the cruise turned out to be all fake," says Moran.
Eddie Moreno worked closely with Joslin at the station and even bought one of those non-existent footballs.
"Being a dallas Cowboys fan and having my two boys I thought, you know what? This is a great way of helping two things. I can get some memorabilia for my kids and at the same time help out this family that was really in need," says Moreno.
Even though he was refunded he was left with a sense of betrayal.
"You know what, it's not so much the money --it's the knowing that we put all our trust in him, thinking we were doing a good things for the community and some of our listeners. That was what really hurt also," says Moreno.
Joslin's been accused of defrauding at least four other stations in the state. None had pressed charges which is why Joslin initially passed his background check.
