This third outing with the Men in Black is an improvement over the bland second film, and there's some fun stuff going on here.
Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones reprise their roles as Agents J and K and the progression, or lack thereof in their working relationship, is nicely handled. Jones is a craggy grump and an exasperated Smith compensates by trying to have at least a little fun with his alien busting job.
When an alien criminal travels back in time to 1969 to murder Jones character, Smith follows to save him.
Director Barry Sonnenfeld had the brilliant idea of casting Josh Brolin as a young Tommy Lee Jones. Brolin is perfect in his impersonation, but also manages to create a real character, not just a caricature.
An accepting attitude of the convoluted plot will serve you well, especially as the movie hurtles toward an ending with twists that don't make much sense at all.
But it's a decent ride getting there.
